Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity

Mr. Pi Kappa Phi 2001 passes to Chapter Eternal

Fred SchmehlThe fraternity recently learned that Frederick William Schmehl, Alpha Upsilon (Drexel), passed to the Chapter Eternal earlier this summer at the age of 76.  Brother Schmehl distinguished himself through decades of tireless and selfless work, at times advancing and at other times simply protecting, the interests of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at Drexel University.  As a long-serving member of the Alpha Upsilon House Corporation, which included extended tenures as treasurer and president, Brother Schmehl, a certified public accountant, brought needed expertise to the management of one of the fraternity’s oldest residences.  At times, Brother Schmehl was the lone volunteer holding the records of the corporation when no others were willing or able.  In recognition of his lifelong interest in Alpha Upsilon, the House Corporation named him president emeritus of the board of directors several years ago.

A longtime donor to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation, he also impacted the national fraternity.  Brother Schmehl was recognized by the 35th Supreme Chapter in 1975 for his body of volunteer work.  Later, in 2001, Pi Kappa Phi would bestow upon him its highest volunteer accolade — the Mr. Pi Kappa Phi award.  Brother Schmehl was the second member of Alpha Upsilon chapter to receive the honor, joining Brother John Deimler (Mr. Pi Kappa Phi 1975) in this special regard.  Both men now reside in the Chapter Eternal.

The fraternity mourns with the extended members of the Schmehl family and with his brothers of Alpha Upsilon Chapter.
