AMES, Iowa—Brother Wayne R. Moore’s passed to the Chapter Eternal on Sunday, January 29. He was 92.
A 1939 initiate of Alpha Omicron (Iowa State), Moore led a distinguished fraternity career, serving Pi Kappa Phi both nationally and locally.
Moore served as national chaplain from 1948 to 1950 and national historian from 1950 – 1952. Later, he would also serve as a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation Board of Trustees from 1993 to 2000.
In recognition of his commitment to Pi Kappa Phi, Moore was recognized by the 33rd Supreme Chapter in 1970 with a Merit Citation – Pi Kappa Phi’s penultimate award for volunteer service. As the years went by, Moore’s interest in and commitment to his fraternity never waned. As a member of the Alpha Omicron Building Corporation, serving as secretary and treasurer of the board, he helped lead the campaign to build the chapter house on Welch Avenue. More than 400 students have been initiated into Alpha Omicron since the house was built.
Later, Moore would again be recognized by his fraternity. In 1994, the National Council selected him as the fraternity’s “Mr. Pi Kappa Phi”, bestowing upon him the organization’s highest accolade. In the Resolution of Appreciation presented to him at the convention in Atlanta, Ga., that year, Moore was acknowledged for having “worked tirelessly to continue the tradition of excellence at his chapter, Alpha Omicron, for the last 55 years, serving as a peer and role model for all to emulate.”
A photo of Moore and a copy of his Mr. Pi Kappa Phi Resolution proudly hangs in the Kelley A. Bergstrom Leadership Center of Pi Kappa Phi – the administrate home of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Though Moore’s absence leaves us with sorrow, his spirit remains evergreen among us.
